Happy New Year!

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Happy New Year from Crossroads Lumber!  The New Year is a time for changes, for fresh starts.  Our inventory is regularly changing as old wood finds new life in our customers’ projects, and as deconstruction is chosen over demolition, diverting beautiful and structural lumber from the landfill to our yard.

We’ve got some great new inventory coming in the next month, and are reducing prices on other units to make room.  As our friends and customers look forward to additions, renovations, and new construction in 2012, these tributes to the past may be the perfect fit in future projects.

Recycled Lumber from Warner Bros Studios

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Cropped from the trailer of "The Petrified Forest" (1936)

As much as our company is about natural resource conservation and providing beautiful, quality lumber, we are also dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of our built environment.

Crossroads has a limited supply of wonderful Douglas Fir from the 1936 Warner Bros. prop and studio Building 89 deconstructed in 2008. This lumber has seen many of the greats of the silver screen over nearly 80 years.  We are proud to offer this bit of motion picture history in our inventory, thanks to the recycling efforts of Warner Bros. Studios.

The vintage Douglas Fir beams from the 1936 building include:

  • 2″X12″X14′ full dimension rough sawn: These were the floor joists from Building 89
  • 8″X14″X11′ originally surfaced four sides: These were the girders holding up the 2X12 joists.

Reclaimed Wood from the Pit

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Greetings!

10"X10"X18' Douglas Fir "Pit Wood"

10″X10″X18′ Douglas Fir “Pit Wood”

Our company keeps growing and improving! Last month Pacific Northwest Timbers, our new yard in Port Townsend, Washington, was officially certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Crossroads has always provided reclaimed lumber as an eco-friendly building material and plans to soon be FSC certified.  For Pacific Northwest Timbers, FSC Chain of Custody Certification is a verification that our post-consumer and post-industrial products help to protect the world’s forests.  We are proud to be a part of this organization that encourages responsible forest management.  You can learn more about the Forest Stewardship Council at www.fsc.org.

This month we’re featuring wood from a unique source. We have been affectionately calling the material “Pit Wood,” because it is being excavated from a mud pit 80 feet wide and 1,400 feet long! This Redwood and Douglas Fir was a wooden platform at a cattle feed plant built in the 1930’s.
